My webpage has been given a facelift. Little bugs are still being worked out and getting current work updates to the portfolio.

The Hunger Games (my personal critique)

I’ll keep this quick. The movie was well done; high production values. Great acting all around. My personal issue is with the author and the original concept.

Yes, it was marketed toward a juvenile audience, but at least J.K. Rowling lifted from classic mythology giving her fantasy world a sense of antiquity and historical/literary gravitas that this one seemed to be lacking. I don’t think ‘Survivor’ counts as a contemporary substitute.

I was also trying to understand why it’s called the “Hunger Games” (the opening crawl seemed to gloss over that detail).

Anyway, here is my break down of the film. Enjoy:

Also, both of these people represent authentic nationalities of the region. FACT: everyone spoke American! (Taken with instagram)

I’ve done my share of publicity photos, which are supposed to glorify your job in some form or another to make it more presentable to the masses, but the caption under this photo took me off guard.
There’s a nice article on FXGuide about the VFX work on ‘Titanic’ (love it or hate it; for me it’s evenly split down the center…if I only I had a fast-forward button in the theater).

Ralph McQuarrie, 1929-2012

The artist community, specifically those of us in the entertainment design field, lost a pillar of our trade. A great talent, Ralph inspired more or less the entirety of conceptual designers in some form or fashion.

The official Star Wars website is running a nice piece by George Lucas.
